Eleanor Shadow logo, saying Eleanor Shadow, Fibre with a Twist

This single-ply, 100% superwash merino DK weight yarn base is a marvel of softness. Superwash wools don’t felt and, if you are looking for an undyed DK wool yarn to try your hand at home dyeing, you can’t go wrong with my Selene base. If you use food colouring, you won’t even need dedicated dyeing equipment.

At 220 meters long, it’s perfect length for knitting a warm hat/beanie or neck warmer if you use one skein only, or get multiples and make that quick knitter jumper that’ll be the epitome of cosy.

Selene Sock is one of my go-to yarns due to its well defined stitch definition (even as a single ply) and how well it handles colour without felting. Find out more in our Fibre Bases and Info page. Be aware though, that single ply yarns are a little more delicate than plied yarns, so your finished object might pill a little if you make something that will handle more friction (think garments with underarms, for example).

Looking for this yarn base but in a different thickness? Check out Selene in fingering weight.
