Description

If you’re in the mood for some extra bouncy wool for felting or spinning in pastel rainbow colours, look no further. This hand dyed Polwarth wool top is super lofty and soft, perfect for crafting items for wearing.

The soft bright pinks, yellows, blues and greens look so lovely together, making your finished object a gorgeous one, no matter how you choose to spin or felt your fibre.

This Polwarth wool for spinning has been dyed in a one-of-a-kind colourway, so once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

There’s 100g, or 3.5 oz of combed wool top for you to play with as you wish.

What is the difference between combed wool top and roving?

It’s very likely you’ve seen this type of fibre preparation being called wool roving. This happens particularly in the US. However, this isn’t roving, but combed wool top. What is the difference? I’m glad you asked.

Wool roving is processed in a way that retains some of the shorter fibres and they are jumbled together with the longer fibres in all directions. Roving’s appearance is slightly fuzzy, so it looks less shiny than wool top.

Wool top retains only the fibre’s longest staples and they’re all combed in the same direction, resulting in a length of wool that is shinier and looks “tidier” in appearance.

Both wool processing methods are great, they’re just not the same! The more you know.

A little disclaimer about colour

I’ve done my best to show off this wool’s real colours, and they show true on my end. However, your monitor settings might not be the same as mine, so there might be a small difference. Thank you for your understanding.

Please note

This listing is for the wool top alone, any extra items you see in the photos such as spindles or plants are for decoration only and not intended for sale.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Keep wool top/roving or art batts in a dry room away from direct sunlight. Airtight boxes are recommended. Don’t place anything heavy on top of the fibre to avoid squishing it.
Handle silk hankies with moisturised hands to avoid them sticking to your skin.
  • I recommend adding lavender sachets to the storage container for pest prevention.
  • Hand wash your finished product separately using wool-specific detergents, dry flat. Hand dyed fibres may bleed a little in the first couple of washes.
