Description

Fingers itching to play with fibre? Look no further. This beautifully soft organic merino for felting or spinning is sure to liven your creative plans.

The soft blue-purples and pinks complement each other beautifully, the saturated pops of violet and the turquoise add extra pizzazz – so you’ll know your finished object will look gorgeous no matter how you choose to spin or felt your wool.

This Merino is certified organic, and amazingly soft at 23 microns thin. Dreamy for those next-to-skin projects.

Is this wool top or wool roving?

The correct way to describe this type of wool processing is combed wool top. This means all the shorter staples have been removed and the remaining, longer fibres have all been combed in the same direction.

Some places such as the USA have taken to calling it wool roving, but that is actually a different type of processing: wool roving retains some of the shorter staples and the fibre doesn’t all go in the same direction, thus being a bit fuzzier in appearance. The more you know!

What is the easiest wool to spin?

Merino is definitely one of the most popular wools to spin and felt with, and for good reason. Merino wool is soft, making it perfect for any next-to-skin project. It has a medium staple, a perfect length for beginner spinners (not so long that you’ll need to draft a lot, not so short that it’ll disappear from your hands too easily).

Merino is also a fabulous fibre for felting, and the high micron count of this particular wool top means it has the potential to wet felt and needle felt quite easily.

Colour disclaimer

Some of the blues in this organic merino are more turquoise than the image shows, but unfortunately I couldn’t get the colours to match. Please take this into account when purchasing. The other colours are showing true on my end, but please remember not all monitor settings are alike and some differences can be expected.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Keep wool top/roving or art batts in a dry room away from direct sunlight. Airtight boxes are recommended. Don’t place anything heavy on top of the fibre to avoid squishing it.
Handle silk hankies with moisturised hands to avoid them sticking to your skin.
  • I recommend adding lavender sachets to the storage container for pest prevention.
  • Hand wash your finished product separately using wool-specific detergents, dry flat. Hand dyed fibres may bleed a little in the first couple of washes.
