Description
I like big batts and I cannot lie! (Sorry, I just had to.)
This is one big and fabulous blue green and purple art batt – at 123g or 4.3oz, this big bundle of fluff is sure to fill your every spinning or felting need. It used to be a hand dyed braid of wool top, but after looking at it, I decided it wanted to turn into something a bit more exciting – so here we are.
I love how the colours play with each other and how the textures make me want to squish the batt. The main green is almost spearminty and I added some bits of neon green to the mix and add more spice. Speaking of spice, how about that sparkle? The blue-violet shine pairs so well with the purple bamboo and wool nepps (there are the little wool “balls” scattered throughout the batt).
Do me a favour and get it, you won’t regret your choice – and you’ll keep me from wanting to squish this textured pretty every time I look at it…
What can I make with this art batt?
My very favourite way to spin art batts is core spin them whilst using a sticky yarn such as mohair as the core; then I ply it with some shiny thread and Bob’s your uncle. However, you do you! Textured art batts are after all a great way to experiment with texture and remember, sheep are growing more wool as we speak. Don’t be afraid of letting go and experimenting to see what happens.
Unfortunately I’m not very knowledgeable in wet felting and therefore can’t offer great advice, but I’m told you can “disassemble” art batts by moving the fibres around to suit your purposes before felting, which sounds to me like a really fun way to play with wool. I can see this as a background for an even more textured 2D artwork, or a book cover.
Whatever you make with this lovely blue green and purple art batt, this squishy marvel is here for your fibre fun.
